United Christian Ministries was established in 1989 by a group of churches in Jackson County that aimed to create a central place to offer residents food and other help. Our mission is to unite resources in Jackson County, inspired by the call of Jesus Christ, to serve the needs of our neighbors. We assist all residents of Jackson County, NC, regardless of income. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we are funded by donations and grants. We are governed by a Board of Directors, have two staff members, and are supported by many volunteers.
UCM offers a client-choice food pantry with fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods, rice, pasta, frozen meats, bakery items, and more. UCM also provides financial help for overdue essential bills such as rent, utilities, heating, and RX Co-Pay. Assistance is available once a year.
You can assist by volunteering at the pantry or by donating to UCM. Drop off in-date food donations and personal items at our building at 191 Skyland Drive, or place donations in the UCM cart inside Sylva's Food Lion store or Harold's Supermarket in Dillsboro. To support UCM financially, please mail a check to P.O. Box 188, Sylva, NC 28779, or donate online.
